Lactobacilli for vaginal health.

The changes that a woman’s body goes through in the course of our lives also have an impact on the vaginal flora. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause, using specific contraceptives and medications and immune system or metabolic disorders can all lead to a deficiency of lactobacilli. This, in turn, has a negative impact on the genital immune system. Vagiflor® helps you to restore and maintain the natural balance of the vagina.
Lactic acid bacteria (lactobacilli) are very important for the health of the female genital area, as they determine the acidity of the vaginal flora. The acidic environment of the vagina can prevent harmful germs from becoming established there.
In general, a lactobacilli deficiency can occur after a treatment with antibiotics, for example to treat a bladder infection. The lower oestrogen levels after menopause also result in a decline in the number of lactobacilli, often accompanied by vaginal atrophy (dryness). In addition, external influences, such as smoking and stress, can place pressure on our bodies. As a result of a lactobacilli deficiency, the pH level of the vaginal environment rises and the tissue is more susceptible to infection. The acidity is inherently subject to cyclical variation. Checking the pH level regularly enables you to recognise abnormalities at an early stage and to respond accordingly. You can measure the pH level yourself without difficulty. Pharmacies and drugstores stock a range of products for the purpose. Some health insurance providers will reimburse pregnant women for the costs.
As the pH level rises , the environment becomes imbalanced, making it easier for infections to take hold. The anatomical proximity means that an unstable vaginal environment also affects the urogenital tract, so that women more frequently suffer from urinary infections. Incorrect hygiene practices can also cause or encourage recurrent infections. For more practical tips on prevention, see “preventing infections”.
Lactobacilli are indispensable when it comes to a healthy vaginal environment. Vagiflor® vaginal suppositories, with natural lactic acid bacteria, supply the lactobacilli you need, right where you need them.

The healthy vagina is certainly not germ-free, but it has a natural protective function. A healthy balance depends on an acidic environment in which harmful yeasts and bacteria cannot survive.Read on
