The changes that our bodies go through in the course of our lives also have an impact on vaginal flora. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause, the use of certain contraceptives and medications, and immune system or metabolic disorders can all lead to lactobacilli deficiency. This has a negative impact on the genital immune system. Vagiflor® helps you to restore and maintain the natural balance of the vagina.
Lactic acid bacteria (lactobacilli) are very important for the health of the female genital area, as they determine the acidity of the vaginal flora. The acidic environment of the vagina prevents germs from becoming established and multiplying there.
In general, a lactobacilli deficiency can occur after a course of antibiotics, for example, to treat a bladder infection. The lower oestrogen levels after menopause result in a decline in the number of lactobacilli, often accompanied by vaginal atrophy (dryness). External influences such as smoking and stress also place pressure on our bodies. As a result of a lactobacilli deficiency, the pH level of the vaginal environment rises and the tissue is more susceptible to infection.
The acidity is inherently subject to cyclical variation. Checking the pH level regularly yourself enables you to recognise abnormalities at an early stage and to respond accordingly. This is particularly important during pregnancy. If you notice a change, you can consult your gynaecologist in good time to take appropriate measures and avoid complications.
As the pH level rises, the environment becomes imbalanced and conducive to infections. Bacterial vaginosis is also a result of an imbalance in the vaginal environment. The anatomical proximity means that an unstable vaginal environment also affects the urogenital tract, so that young women and post-menopausal women more frequently suffer from urinary infections. Taking certain medications, antibiotics for example can also be detrimental to vaginal flora. Female patients are often afflicted by vaginal yeast infections after a course of such treatment.
Lactobacilli are indispensable when it comes to a healthy vaginal environment. Vagiflor® vaginal suppositories, with natural lactic acid bacteria, supply the lactobacilli you need, right where you need them.

The healthy vagina is certainly not germ-free, but it has a natural protective function. A healthy balance depends on an acidic environment in which harmful yeasts and bacteria cannot survive.Read on
