    Preventing vaginal infections

    Our bodies respond to external influences such as stress, medication that weakens the immune system (e.g. antibiotics, immunosuppressants such as cortisone, etc.) and psychological strain. Hormonal fluctuation, too, influences our sense of well-being and can also result in a change to the vaginal environment. We are not always able to ensure a balanced life. There are, however, simple measures you can take to protect your health and support your immune system.

    Here you will find some helpful tips to protect and support your body’s natural intimate environment.

    Intimate hygiene

    • Too much of a good thing can be bad: as much as possible, avoid aggressive, heavily perfumed washing lotions. Wash your genital area with lukewarm water and, if necessary, with a pH-neutral soap or, even better, with products with an acidic pH level.After washing, dry yourself thoroughly. Yeasts like a moist, warm environment.
    • Change tampons and sanitary pads regularly.

    Clothing

    • Wear breathable fabrics, with underwear made of cotton or other natural fibres (washable at 60 °C).
    • You should change your underwear daily, of course, and not only if you have an acute infection.
    • Make sure that your clothing is not too tight.
    • If you have an acute yeast infection, replace your towels daily (and consider using an anti-fungal additive to your laundry detergent).

    Leisure

    • Do not let your bathing costume dry on your body after swimming.
    • If you have your period, replace the tampon after swimming.
    • Avoid whirlpools.
    • Always have your own towel on the bench underneath you at the sauna.

    Nutrition

    • Ensure that you have a healthy and balanced diet. This plays a role in strengthening your body’s natural defences.

    Mental and psychological factors

    • Avoid or reduce stress and ensure that you relax regularly. Yoga, meditation and going for walks, for example, can help.
